On 17 June 2025, ENGAGE for ESG published the White Paper on the Roadmap for EU Sustainable Finance Requirements, in which it provides with an update on the key EU regulations impacting sustainable finance disclosures and presents the benefits of the ENGAGE solutions when facing ESG reporting and risk management processes.
Since the project’s creation in November 2022, the ENGAGE Consortium has focused on developing standardised data disclosure templates and taxonomies for mortgage and home renovation loans in line with the most relevant European regulations, starting with the EU Taxonomy Regulation.
With the aim of minimising the reporting burden for financial institutions under the EU Taxonomy framework, the ENGAGE Templates 1.1 were released in August 2024, version 1.2 of the Templates will be released shortly. The ENGAGE Portal is a dedicated IT infrastructure which operationalises the ENGAGE Templates. Together, the two ENGAGE solutions play a crucial role in the current regulatory environment, particularly in helping lending institutions comply with disclosure obligations.
The White Paper considers the current landscape and proposes a practical, data-driven approach to disclosure. It draws on the Consortium’s experience to offer guidance on implementing sustainable finance requirements, taking into account market perceptions and implementation challenges.
Along with a description of the regulatory foundations of ENGAGE, the document:
Clarifies regulatory complexity and anticipated changes in 2025.
Proposes realistic, future-proof data requirements aligned with the EU Taxonomy and the EPBD IV.
Shares early learnings from the two ENGAGE pilots using the ENGAGE Templates.
